In saucepan, caramelize the ¼ cup sugar.

Mix the brown sugar with the 2 ½ tablespoons of flour.

Add the milk, brown sugar, salt and egg yolks, stirring constantly.

When mixture reaches pudding consistency, remove from heat and add vanilla and butter.

Pour into baked pie shell and cover with meringue.
